Title:

Flag Burning Laws in the U.S.

Description:

The first laws in the United States that were created to protect flags were in the years after the civil war and a trial in 1907 held that laws that prohibited flag burning were constitutional.  By 1932 forty-eight states had passed laws that made it illegal to destroy a flag by publicly burning it, spitting on it or otherwise defacing it. It is generally considered disrespectful to publically burn national flags and POW MIA flags unless they are the end of their life when reverently burning a flag is actually the only way of which it should be disposed.
